Rosie Wainwright is Comfort Cases UK's newest ambassador - listen to why she thinks Comfort Cases are so badly needed.
Our amazing team are committed to helping others. We take our convictions and turn them into action. We believe in a compassionate community that cares for the most vulnerable among us, and we can all do something to bring comfort to children in foster care.
Formed out of a community project called You Donate We Deliver, we were cooking and delivering nutritious meals, snacks and baked goods to the NHS and ambulance services during the Covid-19 pandemic. Post Covid-19 we felt that Comfort Cases would be the next logical step on our amazing journey.
INSPIRING COMMUNITIES TO BRING DIGNITY AND HOPE TO YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE
On any given day, there are over 65,000 children in foster care in the UK. Most of them are removed from their homes with little more than the clothes on their backs. If they do have any personal belongings, they often don't have a bag in which to carry them.
We want to work with Local Authorities and Independent Foster Agencies to provide them with Comfort Cases which are given to children at the point at which they enter their new placement, whether it be temporary, emergency or permanent.
A Comfort Case gives a child entering foster care a sense of dignity and hope. Each bag is packed with a cosy new pair of pyjamas, a stuffed animal to hug, a toothbrush, soap and other personal care items for their first few nights with a new family.
We also offer empty duffel bags to social workers so that they can give them to children when they are removed from their homes in an emergency. This is simply to avoid children having to pack their belongings in bin bags or carrier bags.
